MONROE — A Monroe High School parent has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Education after learning that a transgender student used a female locker room and competed on a girls team during volleyball season.

“The adults in charge knowingly allowed a male athlete to compete against our girls and allowed him access to the girls locker room while they were changing without the girls’ consent or any parent,” said Sean Lechner, who filed the complaint. “There’s no excuse for this, ever.”

Mr. Lechner was joined by Republican state lawmakers outside of the Monroe County Courthouse on Monday. Mr. Lechner said the student plays for Ann Arbor Skyline High School’s volleyball team. The Monroe High School Trojans played Ann Arbor Skyline on Sept.
