NEW YORK (WABC) -- Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is expected to enter the race for New York governor, with an announcement as soon as Tuesday.
Blakeman will challenge Rep. Elise Stefanik in a primary that state Republican Party leaders have said they do not want. They are both targeting unseating Gov. Kathy Hochul next November.
Both will be vying for the support of President Donald Trump. Asked which he would support in a gubernatorial primary, Trump earlier on Monday called Blakeman and Stefanik "great people."
"But he's great. And she's great," he said. "They're both great people. We have a lot of great people in the Republican Party."
Hochul, who was also asked about a possible Republican primary on Monday, said "itmakes it much more entertaining for me."
