KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Renovators are working to restore the building where Walt Disney launched his animation career, transforming it into an art studio and museum that will serve the Kansas City community.
The building at Troost and 31st Street housed Disney’s early animation work before he became a household name. Gary Sage, vice president of development for Thank You Walt Disney Inc. , said Disney lived in the building during financial struggles.
“When Disney was in the process of going bankrupt, he slept on a tarpaulin against this wall. He was pretty much living out of this building,” Sage said.
