This is an opinion column.
There goes the ugly side of Hoover. Again.
There go the fearful, uninformed, intolerant, frighteningly bigoted folks next door. Or around the corner. Or across town.
Or in the U.S. Senate.
There go the folks who blissfully reside in a cocoon of whiteout, obfuscating anything that does not look, live, love or pray like them. Anything they don’t understand — which, for Alabama’s senior U.S Senator and wannabe governor Tommy Tuberville , is pretty much everything more complicated than a playbook.
Now, there are some really good people in Hoover, some of whom I call friends. Then there are those who spooked the city’s planning and zoning commission into NIMBYing the Islamic Academy of Alabama, a K-12 school that’s been educating kids in Homewood since 1995.
