Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on Monday announced a trio of ambitious goals he plans to pursue in the coming years as part of a broader effort to revitalize the central city and rekindle its struggling economy.

Wilson said that by 2030 he wants to see downtown foot traffic reach pre-pandemic levels, two million square feet of empty office space filled and 2,500 new housing units underway throughout Portland’s urban core.

“We know we have a lot of work left to do,” Wilson told a group of business and political leaders gathered at the Oregon Leadership Summit. “But when I look around I see all of the ingredients we need.”

Still, hitting any one of those targets will likely be an extremely tall order.
