BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Private First Class Willard Carleton Orr of Bangor has finally been accounted for, 84 years after his death in the Pearl Harbor attacks.
The Defense POW MIA Accounting Agency said Orr was accounted for on November 20, according to a December 2 release.
Orr was 21 years old when he was killed on Dec.7, 1941.
He reportedly died when Japanese forces expanded their attack to Hickam Field, where Orr worked as one of the head cooks.
Orr was one of only 14 of the 232 killed at army installations during the Pearl Harbor attacks that remained unidentified after the war.
He is the recipient of both a presidential citation and a Purple Heart.
The Accounting Agency says they will be giving more details in Orr’s case once his family gets a full briefing.
