INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is one step closer to winning the Heisman Trophy.

Two days after leading the Hoosiers to the Big Ten Championship with a 13-10 win over Ohio State, Mendoza was named a finalist for college football's biggest award.

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin are also finalists for the award.

The top-ranked Hoosiers are 13-0 with Mendoza under center. He's passed for 2,980 yards and 33 touchdowns so far this season, his first with IU after transferring from California. He's also rushed for 240 yards and six touchdowns.

Indiana will play in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 against either Oklahoma or Alabama.
