MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Indiana — Police say a crash involving three vehicles claimed two lives in Montgomery County Monday afternoon.

Eight other people were taken to hospitals after the crash.

It happened around 3:15 p.m. on U.S. 231 at County Road 600 South, which is just south of Crawfordsville.

According to the sheriff's department, investigators believe the driver of a pickup truck approached a line of stopped vehicles and "passed them in the westbound lane and entered into the travel lanes of U.S. 231." The truck collided with a southbound car and then struck a northbound SUV, police said.

The driver and front seat passenger of one of the cars were pronounced dead at the scene. A backseat passenger was extricated from the wreckage and taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Ther
