AMES, Iowa (KCRG) - Jimmy Rogers has started his new job as Iowa State’s head football coach, taking over a program previously led by Matt Campbell, the winningest head coach in Cyclone football history.
Rogers met with players Sunday night to address their concerns about the coaching change and encourage them to remain with the program.
“The players are going through a hard time, and I said to them, ‘if you didn’t feel this way, it wasn’t done right,’” Rogers said. “I do think that there’s something special here, and my charge to them last night is: ‘that feeling that you had when you chose Iowa State, it wasn’t just off of one person. It was how a community made you feel, it was how those teammates made you feel, and there was a spirit behind that in why you chose to come here.’”
