A man is facing arson charges after a massive two-alarm fire tore through a Maryland apartment building Sunday night, sending one person to the hospital and displacing multiple residents, according to Prince George’s County Fire/EMS.
The suspect, Floyd Rich V, was arrested after investigators from PGFD, the Arson Task Force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives tied him to the blaze in the 9500 block of Muirkirk Road, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 8:57 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, for reports of flames shooting from the third floor of a multi-family building.
A second alarm was sounded as fire ripped through the roofline, drawing mutual aid from Anne Arundel County and Howard County fire crews.
PGFD said the fire was brought under control, but not before one building occupant was transported with “serious but not life-threatening injuries.”
An unknown number of residents were displaced, with the Red Cross called in to assist.
Rich was identified as the possible arsonist and taken into custody without incident.
He was treated for injuries of his own and charged with:
- First-degree arson;
- Malicious destruction of property;
- Reckless endangerment.
Sheriff’s deputies from the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office carried out the arrest.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.
