[AMES, Iowa] — Crews in Iowa are working diligently to clear roads after the latest snowfall over the weekend.

Officials reported that more than 400 plows, approximately half of the fleet, are currently focused on clearing remaining snow and ice. The aim is to ensure road safety before more winter weather arrives.

"Getting those areas like bridges, or if we’ve got some snow piled up on the edge of the roadway, we’ll try to wing that back to give us a bit more space and just prepare for the next round that’s coming at us," said Craig Bargfrede of the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The winter operations administrator anticipates that crews will complete their work by the end of the day.

The DOT is reminding drivers to give plows plenty of space to operate safely.
