Valley Christian girls basketball splits two-game tournament at SMHS
The Valley Christian girls basketball team split its short two-game tournament at Santa Maria High School on Saturday.
The Lions defeated Farmersville 38-36 where senior Katelyn Mikkelson hit two clutch free throws late in the game.
Valley Christian lost the second game to Foothill Tech 43-29, but coach Randy Stanford said he was proud of his team’s heart.
McKenna Fortier scored a team-high 14 points.
“We battled but we just didn’t have the size of Foothill Tech,’ Stanford said. “I’m super proud of this group of young ladies. They are improving every game and that is what we need.”
The Lions move to 2-5 on the young season after defeating Coast Union 55-10 earlier in the week.
