LANSING, Iowa (WXOW) – The demolition of the Lansing Bridge is officially scheduled as part of the Mississippi River Crossing Project. The old bridge will be imploded at 9:30 a.m. on December 18.

Ahead of the implosion, car ferry service will be suspended beginning Dec. 18 and will resume Dec. 21.

Iowa 26 will also be closed during the demolition, with detours sending drivers on an approximately 90-minute reroute through Prairie du Chien.

Originally, crews had planned to dismantle the current bridge by lowering sections onto a barge. However, during construction of the new bridge, slight movements were detected in the existing structure.
