LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Demonstrators gathered at the state Capitol on Monday morning, chanting “leave the heat on” and calling on Gov. Andy Beshear to use his powers to keep utilities connected through the winter.
The Leave the Heat On Collective asked Beshear to put a utility disconnection moratorium in place until the end of winter through March.
“When Kentuckians can’t afford their bills, what do we do? Leave the heat on,” said Cara Cooper with Kentucky for Energy Democracy. “We’re out here today to call on Governor Beshear to use his authority to put a utility moratorium in place through the end of the winter through March.”
The group cited the recent government shutdown, the lack of statewide weather-related protections and uncertainty around long-term federal funding of programs
