Dennis Hildeby earned his first career shutout as the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning Monday night, with Morgan Rielly and Auston Matthews scoring the goals in a 2-0 win.
Standing tall in the midst of Toronto’s recent crease crisis, which has seen last season’s goaltending tandem of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll landing on injured reserve, the 24-year-old Swede stopped all 29 shots that came his way. The win, the fifth of his career, was just the latest in a recent spate of top-drawer performances for Hildeby, who had posted a .927 save percentage in his eight appearances before Monday.
