CLEVELAND, Ohio — The owner of a dump truck company died by suicide on Sunday, a day before he was expected to plead guilty to federal charges that accused him of helping rip off a Beachwood explosives company for $2.4 million, officials said.
Gregory Shuey, the owner of Shuey Backhoe and Dump Trucking, was found dead outside his home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Victoria Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the office of the Allen County coroner.
Deputies went to Shuey’s home about 8:20 a.m. after someone requested a check on his welfare, Gonzalez said.
Shuey, 73, of Harrod, was set to plead guilty Monday in federal court in Cleveland to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
