NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Twenty-three law enforcement agencies across Louisiana have partnered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a program that allows them to help enforce federal immigration laws.

The agencies include the Kenner, Hammond, Gretna and Pearl River police departments, along with other local sheriff’s offices and multiple state agencies, according to ICE.

Some partnerships under the 287(g) federal immigration enforcement program have been in place for years. Under the original model, local officers would arrest someone, review their immigration status and pass information to immigration officials for follow-up, said immigration attorney Homero Lopez Jr.
