LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Lansing Catholic girls basketball team won the Division 2 state championship in the 2022-23 season. Just two years later, the Cougars did not field a varsity team in the 2024-25 season.
A team of all freshmen and sophomores played a JV schedule in 2024-25, and now the Cougars are back playing varsity this season. Lansing Catholic opened its season on Monday night with a 45-33 loss to Saranac.
Freshman Sydney Hanes scored 22 of the Cougars’ 33 points in her first high school game. First-year coach Rose Sarmiento Temple coached the JV team last year and says she’s looking forward to watching her team grow over the course of the season.
