National Grid confirmed late Monday that an afternoon crash in Commack the Suffolk police said killed one person and injured another involved one of the utility's vehicles.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Apple Lane, a Suffolk police spokesperson told Newsday. Another person involved was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Information regarding that individual’s condition was not immediately available.

Suffolk police did not immediately release the identities of either person involved in the collision late Monday. Police could not provide additional information regarding the crash.
