In a scene right out of a horror movie, a hiker found themselves trapped for hours in Arches National Park, Utah , held in place by...quicksand.
That's right, a hiker was trapped for more than two hours in quicksand after solo hiking in the park before sunrise. The hiker, identified as Austin Dirks, was hiking in the Courthouse Wash area , not far from the main entrance to the park, when he found himself stuck in the cement-like substance.
Dirks was rescued by a determined park ranger and Grand County Search and Rescue. The incident, while extremely rare, is reigniting the conversation about national park safety.
