George Steitz of Penfield, a legendary coach and a World War II veteran who died Nov. 14 at 101 years old, could be counted on to show up.
He was there on June 6, 1944, among the U.S. troops that landed at Normandy as part of the counterattack against German forces.
He was there on the sidelines for years coaching high school sports, in particular at Penfield High School, where his soccer and baseball teams won championship after championship.
