A fire broke out at a seven-storey building in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on Tuesday, killing at least 20 people, Reuters reported.
According to broadcaster Kompas TV, firefighters have managed to bring the fire under control after several hours of operation. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident.
The fire has been extinguished and efforts are on to find more possible victims inside the building, Reuters quoted Susatyo Purnomo Condro, the head of Central Jakarta police, as saying. The fire erupted on the first floor around midday, Condro said, and then spread to the upper floors. Some of the employees were having lunch in the building at the time while others had left the office, he said.
