Young students at Montgomery Public Schools are getting their choice of free books through a partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative .
As a result of the partnership, elementary school kids in kindergarten through second grade get to take home two free books to add to their personal libraries in what MPS said was an effort to promote an early love of reading.
"Literacy is the foundation for academic success," said MPS superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd . "It unlocks doors, expands horizons and equips our students with the skills they need in school and beyond. When children read, they dream, and when they dream, they begin to see themselves as future leaders, thinkers, creators, and changemakers."
