BBC Breakfast viewers were moved on Tuesday when Sally Nugent and Jon Kay interviewed a guest who had received the all-clear after battling what was previously deemed an incurable cancer. Prior to chatting with Alyssa Tapley, Jon explained, "Now we've got a remarkable health story for you. This morning, a 16-year-old girl became the first patient in the world to be given a brand new treatment for a previously incurable blood cancer."
Sally added: "Yes, Alyssa Tapley had gene therapy three years ago at Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London. She is now cancer-free. Alyssa is going to join us in just a moment, but first, here's our medical editor, Fergus Walsh."
