ASHEVILLE - Buncombe County was awarded nearly a million dollars for sidewalks in Swannanoa intended to strengthen pedestrian connections to local businesses and enhance safety in an area hard-hit by Tropical Storm Helene in September 2024.

As part of a recent round of awards from the N.C. Department of Commerce's Small Business Infrastructure Grant Programs, the $979,000 will be used to repair damaged existing sidewalk along Whitson Avenue and extend it through the commercial area of Beacon Village.
