FLORISSANT, Mo. — New signs installed at a now-shuttered Hooters location in Florissant are triggering questions from hundreds of St. Louis-area residents on social media.

The former restaurant location at 2765 North Highway 67 in Florissant was recently spotted with "Duolingo: Coming Soon" signs draped over the Hooters iconography.

The language education company told 5 On Your Side the signs were a "temporary installation" and wouldn't clarify if it had any further plans for the site, saying interviews were not being offered at this time. It instead blamed the signs on its fictional mascot, Duo, spotting an "empty nest."
