SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A California mother is grateful she and her newborn daughter were able to escape a fire that destroyed their home and everything inside.
Violeta Nieto was nursing her 4-day-old daughter, Tahlia, last Thursday in her mobile home in Fallbrook when she noticed smoke filling the room. She says the fire started after her landlord attempted to restore power that had gone out overnight due to winds.
Around noon, electrical sparking began in a drawer near Nieto’s bed and a refrigerator.
“It just started sparking up in the bottom drawer,” Nieto said. “When I saw the smoke filling up and just more coming out, I ran with my baby. That’s what mattered – the most important thing.”
The fire consumed the entire mobile home in under 10 minutes, destroying all of Nieto’s possessions.
