Support relocation of McAlpin house

There is an opportunity to support saving the George McAlpin house during the Tuesday, Dec. 9 Historic Preservation Board meeting, which will be held at 3 p.m. in Sarasota City Hall.

John Vermeren – the future owner of the McAlpin house – is seeking board approval to relocate the structure from Cross Street to the Ethan Allen neighborhood.

George McAlpin was a major figure in the concrete industry, and he constructed curbing and seawalls for Sarasota.

At one point, his 1912 house was set to be demolished for a condo development; fortunately, the Sarasota City Commission has already endorsed the relocation of his home.

Your support will help save a small piece of Sarasota's fast-disappearing history.
