Sun Metro is getting a boost from the federal government.

The city's public transit operation announced Dec. 2 that it received a $1.96 million grant to replace its aging supervisor transit fleet with cleaner, more efficient vans. The funding was secured through the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration's Low to No Emissions competitive grant program.

“We are grateful for the support from the FTA and the hard work of our Sun Metro grants team for this investment in our community, providing us with funds to update aging transit supervisor vehicles and deliver cleaner, more reliable and more efficient service for our customers,” Sun Metro Director Anthony DeKeyzer said in a news release.
