MALAWI has warned of “serious consequences” if Britain cuts vital aid to the country.

Thomas Bisika, the country’s high commissioner to the UK, told The National that Malawi was in the midst of a debt crisis after we revealed how aid could be cut to “almost nothing” .

The impoverished southeast African nation is at risk of becoming one of a number of casualties of Labour’s raid on the foreign aid budget , according to sources familiar with the matter.

Westminster ’s International Development Committee has asked the Independent Commission for Aid Impact to look into what cuts to Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) would mean for Malawi specifically, given its status as one of the world’s poorest countries.
