A massive fire has engulfed an apartment building in New York , with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Dramatic footage shows massive flames coming from the roof of the building on the Upper West Side.

Debris is also seen falling from the building and onto the sidewalk below as emergency services desperately try to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters first received calls about the emergency at approximately 8.20am. local time. The fire erupted from the top floor of 201 West 107th Street before quickly spreading. Shocking helicopter footage shows the building, which is believed to contain approximately 40 apartments, engulfed in huge flames, with the left side of the structure seemingly completely caved in.
