Blizzard conditions forecast for much of Iowa could evolve into what's known as a snow squall.
Every corner of the state will be impacted by the winter storm, ranging in severity in the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 9, into Wednesday morning. Northern Iowa into western Iowa is under a winter storm watch, and eastern Iowa is under a winter weather advisory. A wind advisory was issued for the Des Moines metro and southwestern Iowa.
With wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour accompanied by the possibility of snow, Des Moines could see a snow squall during peak commuting time.
When will the snow start in Des Moines?
Rain could kick off Des Moines' winter weather activity, with a 30% chance mainly after 5 p.m, Tuesday, Dec. 9. The precipitation could transition into snow by 5 a.m. Wednesday. W
