President Donald Trump weighed in as Bruce Blakeman has thrown his hat into the ring to challenge Representative Elise Stefanik in New York's Republican primary for governor.

Blakeman, an attorney who the New York Post describes as a "longtime" Trump friend, has served as the Nassau County Executive since 2022. He also previously served as a commissioner for the New York-New Jersey Port Authority. Stefanik announced her bid for governor in November, and has been seen as a key ally of the president in Congress.

“He’s great and she’s great. They’re both great people. We have a lot of great people in the Republican Party,” Trump said when asked about the race. The president also said he'd "think" about endorsing in the race, but didn't voice support one way or the other.
