The Ford Maverick has won MotorTrend's 2026 Truck of the Year, praised for efficiency, value and practicality.
"In the supremely competitive truck category, Ford broke new ground with the Maverick, a throwback to the compact pickup of the 70s and 80s, upgraded to meet modern safety and fuel efficiency standards," said Ed Loh, Head of Editorial for MotorTrend.
The Maverick’s efficiency numbers stand out, with EPA estimates of 42/35/38 mpg for the front-drive hybrid and 40/34/37 mpg with all-wheel drive; turbo EcoBoost models reach about 30 mpg highway, with the Tremor at roughly 27 mpg.
Value remains a highlight, with the 2026 Maverick starting under $30,000 and entry pricing adjusted to broaden appeal.
The award process uses six criteria—design, engineering, performance, value, safety
