Indian rice exports to the United States remain steady even after higher import duties, according to Dev Garg from the Indian Rice Exporters Federation. His comments come after US President Donald Trump signalled fresh tariffs on agricultural imports, including Indian rice, citing complaints from American farmers about cheaper imports.
Garg said the US is an important but not dominant buyer for India. “India exported about $374 million worth of basmati rice to the US… around 270,000 metric tonne,” he said. The US ranks as the fourth-largest market for Indian basmati. For non-basmati, exports were “around 60,000 tonne… the 24th largest market for Indian exporters.”
