KENNER, La. (WVUE) - A 10-year-old boy was recovered unhurt Monday (Dec. 9) after leaping out of his parent’s moving SUV during an alleged carjacking in Kenner, police said.

The dangerous drama started around 1:45 p.m., when Kenner Police say 36-year-old Mackenzie Switzer pulled into a parking lot in the 200 block of Veterans Boulevard in a Chevrolet Malibu reported stolen from New Orleans.

Police said Switzer abandoned the stolen Malibu and climbed into a Nissan Rogue that had been left running in the same parking lot. Switzer allegedly stole that vehicle, driving off with the victim’s 10-year-old son still inside.

Authorities said the young boy “acted quickly and courageously, opening the door and jumping from the (moving) vehicle to safety.”
