FINDLAY, Ohio — At just 9 years old, Scarlett Emmons of Findlay is being called a hero.

The Van Buren Elementary School student was spending the night at her grandma, Jeanette Teneyck's house, when she noticed her grandma acting odd.

As they were going to bed, Teneyck started pounding on her phone screen and speaking incoherently. What was supposed to be a fun movie night turned into a nightmare.

Scarlett immediately texted her mom, Brooke Emmons.

"I was like, 'Mom, Grandma's acting weird," Scarlett said.

Once Brooke made it to her mom's apartment and found Teneyck unresponsive, she called 911.

"I used to be an EMT, so I know when something is wrong," Brooke said. "And I know mom was not joking."
