NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - North Ridgeville Councilman Eric Shaffer has not resigned from his position despite a plea deal that requires him to step down or go to jail, Mayor Kevin Corcoran said.
Shaffer, who has represented Ward 2 since 2023, was arrested earlier this year and pleaded guilty to stealing more than $8,000 in veterans benefits from Lorain County Veterans Service while serving on council.
“It is an unfortunate situation. You never want to deal with a situation like this,” Corcoran said.
Shaffer was charged with tampering with records and theft. He pleaded guilty in November to collecting veterans benefits while hiding income from his council seat.
Court records show Shaffer, a U.S. Army veteran, was not transparent about his income when applying for veterans benefits
