A Port Colborne resident on an anniversary excursion with his wife found a new reason to celebrate thanks to a timely lottery prize.
Peter Babirad discovered he had won an Ontario 49 second prize of $50,000 in the Oct. 15 draw.
Babirad, 63, has been playing OLG lottery games for more than 40 years.
He and his wife were in Niagara Falls to celebrate their anniversary when they stopped for gas. Babirad decided to check his lottery tickets. When he handed them to a store clerk for validation, the lottery terminal suddenly froze.
“When they told me I won big, I was shocked and couldn’t believe it,” Babirad said in an OLG news release.
