The move means tech giants like Meta must now take "reasonable steps" to keep underage users from having accounts on their platforms. ‌

It comes as debate continues to rage closer to home about the negative impact of school pupils being allowed to bring smartphones to classes.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has promised to ban mobiles in classrooms if he becomes First Minister. The SNP Government has instead opted to leave the decision on whether to ban smartphones to individual headteachers.
