Cut size of council

Regarding the article London council’s new pay rate cut above others in region (Nov. 7).

London councillors voted themselves a 35 per cent pay increase without any input from taxpayers, even though we pay the bills.

Toronto, which is the biggest city in Canada with a population exceeding six million, has 25 full-time councillors. Therefore, London with a population of fewer than half a million should need, at most, four full-time councillors. The city could be divided into four wards.

The average wage of Toronto councillors is $178,000. If we had four full-time councillors, it would be less expensive than the present 14.

We, as taxpayers, must make sure no more than four councillors are allowed, and with no part-time assistants.
