Providence basketball outlasts Brown. Here’s how

PROVIDENCE - It’s nothing but Big East play from here for Providence after a second straight men’s basketball win over an in-state rival.

Brown pushed the Friars deep into the second half Tuesday night before eventually succumbing. Jamier Jones continued his ascension and Cole Hargrove came in from the cold to spell Oswin Erhunmwunse, who was limited by illness.

Those two frontcourt players helped Providence control the glass over the final 20 minutes and withstand a stubborn effort from the Bears. Stefan Vaaks stuck in the dagger with a late 3-pointer and the Friars outlasted Brown, 86-79, in front of 8,123 fans at Amica Mutual Pavilion.

Jones grabbed all six of his rebounds in the second half and Hargrove collected nine points and seven boards after playing less than three minutes in
