With the 2026 NFL Draft order continuing to take shape, we have some intriguing scenarios on the board (and, of course, many games left to play).

The New York Giants are in the driver's seat for now at No. 1, and if the front office was smart, the move would be to trade down with a QB-starved team (since Jaxson Dart proved he was the quarterback of the future) and to get more picks.

In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D'Andrea, he had the New York Jets taking Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza. And in the latest mock from ESPN's Field Yates, he has the Jets trading up from No. 7 to grab Mendoza: They'd give up Nos. 7 and 18 and "a Day 2 pick" to the Giants.

Here's his take:

Mendoza has had a remarkable season at Indiana, showing off excellent accuracy and a powerful right arm to pair with much improved pocket awareness and sack avoidance after two seasons at Cal. He leads the FBS with 33 passing touchdowns this season and just handled an extremely tough test against Ohio State, leading Indiana to its first Big Ten Championship since 1967. The Jets are currently 27th in QBR (40.5), needing a long-term answer for coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey to cement themselves within the organization.
