Jubilant Sykes was found stabbed to death in his Santa Monica, Calif., home on Monday — and his son has been arrested as the main suspect. The Grammy nominee was 71.

According to a press release, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) officers responded to a 911 call from a person who reported “an assault in progress.”

Once authorities arrived, they were directed inside the home, where they located Sykes, who was suffering from “critical injuries consistent with a stabbing.”

“Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the individual deceased at the scene,” the press release read.

SMPD said the opera singer’s 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, was “found inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.”
