Matty Matheson’s Iron Cow is officially open, and I’ve had a chance to enter and eat from the belly of the beast.

Deep into the recesses of the restaurant, there is a private back room that hasn’t been open to the public before. There I was seated, past the hanging glass cabinet of worldly spoons, past the plates with pictures of birds on them, past the speakeasy and into the all-brown room across from multiple cow figurines staring into the distance.

Instead of a light taste test, the entire menu was up for grabs at this media meal where the food was provided, and luckily I was in this room with a group of people eating family style.

These are the best things I ate while at Iron Cow’s opening on Dec. 8.
