The Red Sox reportedly made an offer to Pete Alonso, but it wasn’t enough to get the veteran slugger to sign in Boston.
Alonso is finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Alonso’s reported pact comes one day after Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies on a five-year, $150 million deal.
The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey on Wednesday afternoon offered some intel into Boston’s offer to Alonso.
“The Red Sox’ offer to Alonso was for fewer years and significantly less money, sources said,” Healey wrote.
The Red Sox insider did not specifically report the figures of the offer, however.
