The Red Sox lost a notable pitching prospect in Wednesday’s Rule 5 Draft, seeing right-hander Jedixson Paez go to the Chicago White Sox with the No. 2 overall pick.
Paez was one of 13 players selected in the major league portion of the Rule 5 Draft. The Red Sox did not make a selection of their own.

A 21-year-old righty, Paez spent all of last season at High-A Greenville and missed the majority of the season due to a calf strain. Paez posted a 2.79 ERA in 19.1 innings over seven starts, and he finished the year ranked as Boston’s No. 19 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
Despite remaining far from the majors by the end of last season, Paez will now get an immediate opportunity to prove he belongs.
