The Alberta government has designated locations for the province’s first three all-season resorts, part of its effort to more than double tourism dollars in the next decade.
Nakiska, Castle and Fortress have been approved to operate year-round and can apply to expand facilities to offer more activities, Alberta’s Tourism Minister Andrew Boitchenko said Wednesday.
Exactly what those off-season activities look like will depend on the proposals submitted, but could include hiking, mountain biking and zip lining.
Boitchenko said this will make it “easier for Albertans from all walks of life to enjoy their own backyard.”
While the designation opens the door to development, Boitchenko said it is not a blanket approval to build.
