Niagara-on-the-Lake has to ensure any future use of the former hospital land on Wellington Street fulfils a community need, says a town-sponsored report.
NPG Planning Solutions, which conducted a series of public engagement events for residents to say what they want located at the nearly one-hectare former hospital land across the street from the Shaw Festival, said councillors need to “set clear” expectations on how the property will benefit the town in the future, especially with the changing population and demographic trends.
Overall, NPG Planning Solutions heard from about 800 people through an online survey, three public meetings, an in-person walkabout around the property, and a stakeholders’ meeting. The online survey attracted about 580 people.
