Vancouver Public School’s board passed a resolution Tuesday to borrow millions of dollars from the Clark County Treasurer’s Office for the latter half of the school year after the state denied additional emergency funds to bridge gaps in the district’s cash flow.
The funding shortfalls will result in an estimated $20.15 million deficit for the 2026-27 school year and changes to alternative learning experiences, including the closure of the district’s Flex Academy.
The district recently requested $21.4 million from the state in emergency funds for this school year — the most the district has ever asked for and the largest request the state has received from a school district.
